Care
A little care goes a long way. How to wash, dry and store what you wear from us. Questions? Write to us at support@julysg.com.
Jersey
Our jersey polos are garment dyed and washed before they reach you, so most of the work is already done. What's left is mostly a matter of not overdoing it.
Cotton jersey is knitted rather than woven, which is why it gives a little and moves with you. Ours is treated for a soft, almost sueded feel.
Washing
Wash at 40°C with similar colours. Turn it inside out to protect the colour and the surface. There's no need to wash after every wear. Often an evening on a hanger by an open window does the job.
Drying
Dry on a hanger, or tumble dry on low. If you hang it, close the buttons and pull the collar into shape while it's still damp.
Ironing
Rarely needed. If you do, use a low setting on the reverse side.
Over time
Garment-dyed colour fades gradually, and the cotton keeps relaxing. Each season it looks a little more like yours.
Piqué
Piqué is the textured knit most polos started out in. Ours is cotton with a little stretch, garment dyed like the jersey.
95% cotton, 5% elastane. The open texture lets air through, and the stretch helps it keep its shape.
Washing
Wash at 40°C with similar colours. Close the buttons first. Natural shell buttons are strong, but they're better off not knocking around a drum.
Drying
Dry on a hanger, or tumble dry on low. Avoid high heat, which is hard on the stretch.
Ironing
Low heat, on the reverse, keeping clear of the buttons.
Over time
The colour fades gently and the texture softens with wear.
Cashmere
Cashmere is the fine undercoat cashmere goats grow for winter. It's soft, warm and light, and stronger than it feels. With a little care it lasts for years.
Washing
Wash only now and then, and by hand. Turn it inside out and use cool water with a wool detergent. No fabric softener, bleach or biological detergent. Rinse gently in cool water. For stubborn stains, have it dry cleaned.
Drying
Press the water out without wringing, then lay it flat on a towel, away from direct heat and sun. Never tumble dry, and don't hang it while it's wet.
Ironing
Cashmere rarely creases. If it needs it, use the wool setting and steam lightly before pressing.
Pilling
Some pilling is normal, especially early on, as the longer fibres work their way to the surface. Remove the pills by hand, but not too often, since each time takes a little fibre with it.
Storing
Fold, don't hang. Make sure it's clean and dry before putting it away. For longer storage, use an airtight bag or box, with cedar, lavender or rosemary to keep moths away.
