Historically, we have been quite good at finding reasons to go outside. Crossing mountains, sailing the coast, disappearing into the woods for a few days. Sometimes it was necessary. Sometimes it was adventure. The distinction was not always that important. Golf came later, but the idea of walking for hours through changing terrain was hardly unfamiliar. Perhaps it was always going to catch on – or maybe it’s a scarcity thing.
After six months of winter there is a particular joy in feeling the sun against your skin and grass beneath your feet. One that can be difficult to understand if you have never had to wait for either. That much winter also makes for a fairly short golf season. May to October if we’re lucky. Venture south though and you can play pretty much all year. Head north and a frost delay in June isn’t completely absurd. Here in Oslo, golf is simply off limits for roughly half the year, and courses become places for cross-country skiing, sledding and ice skating. Charming as hell, if you ask us. Would we take a few more months? Sure. But also, maybe not.
July makes clothing and gear for this kind of life. Comfortable, refined and uncomplicated. For the days you play, and the many you don’t.
